Abstract

543,712. Dyes. MENDOZA, M., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Sept. 4, 1940, No. 13833. [Class 2 (iii)] Black tetrakisazo dyes, giving dyeings fast to acids and very fast to light on leather, are made by coupling in alkaline medium tetrazotized benzidine, or a derivative thereof substituted in 3- or in both 3- and 3<SP>1</SP>- positions by chlorine, methyl or methoxy, with a monoazo compound of the type, sulphonated amine of the benzene series # (acid) 1 : 8 : 3 : 6- aminonaphtholdisulphonic acid, and then either (a) coupling with 1 molecular, proportion of a monoazo compound of the type, sulphonated amine of the, benzene or naphthalene series # m-phenylene- or m-toluylene-diamine, or (b) coupling first with 1 molecular proportion of m-phenylene- or m-toluylene-diamine and thereafter with 1 molecular proportion of a diazotized sulphonated amine of the benzene or naphthalene series. Examples relate to the production by method (b) of the dyestuffs, sulphanilic acid # (acid) 1:8:3: 6-aminonaphtholdisulphonic acid (alkaline) #benzidine # m - phenylenediamine # sulphanilic or naphthionic acid, and of the dyestuff, sulphanilic acid # (acid) 1:8:3:6 - aminonaphtholdi - sulphonic acid (alkaline) # dianisidine # m - phenylenediamine - naphthionic acid.
