[Class 2 (iii)] Tria o dyes, convertible in substance into copper complex compounds, are obtained by coupling tetrazotized benzidine or a substitution product thereof (1 mol.) with an o-hydroxyarylcarboxylic acid (1 mol.) and (in acid solution) with an aromatic amine or aminosulphonic acid (1 mol.), capable of coupling in p-position to the diazotizable amino group and carrying in o-position to such group a substituent capable of forming metal complex compounds, further diazotizing the resulting aminodisazo dyestuff and coupling (alkaline) with an N-substituted-2 : 6 : 8-aminonaphtholsulphonic acid (1 mol.) cf. Specifications 445,999 and 481,832. The copper compounds give direct green to olive dyeings on cotton and such dyeings may be further treated with agents yielding copper. The examples relate to the preparation of (1) the dyestuffs, salicylic acid # benzidine, o-tolidine or 3 : 3<SP>1</SP>-dichlorobenzidine # (acid) 1-amino-2-methoxynaphthalene-6- sulphonic acid-(in presence of ammonia and pyridine)# N-acetyl-2 : 6 : 8-aminonaphtholsulphonic acid, and their copper complex compounds, (2) the dyestuffs, salicylic acid # benzidine or o-tolidine# (acid) 1-amino-2- ethoxynaphthalene - 6 - sulphonic acid# (in presence of ammonia and pyridine) N-methyl- 2 : 6 : 8-aminonaphtholsulphonic acid and their copper complex compounds.
