In a photoconductive-electroluminescent combination, a photoconductive material is used having a fundamental absorption edge and a peak sensitivity to the peak range of wavelength of the light emission of the electroluminescent material. With an electroluminescent materialof zinc sulphide having a peak wavelength emission at about 4500 Š a suitable photoconductive material is a 1:1 molecular ratio mixture of CdS and ZnS with a peak sensitivity at about 4270 Š. The two layers may be located between planar electrodes or between crossed parallel strip electrodes. Specification 746,502 is referred to.
