Abstract
851,759. Electroluminescent devices. SOC. D'ELECTRONIQUE ET D'AUTOMATISME. Dec. 10, 1957 [Feb. 28, 1957], No. 38371/57. Class 39(1). [Also in Group XXXVI] An infra-rest responsive device comprises a unitary structure consisting of a first electrode film 3 translucent to infra-red rays, a photoconductive layer 1 whose resistance depends on the level of the incident infra-red radiation, a second electrode film 6, an electroluminescent layer 2 and a third electrode film 4 translucent to the light emitted by the layer 2, the films 3 and 4 being electrically connected. The light output may be intensified by a photoconductive electroluminescent intensifier combination. The electroluminescent layer may be a sulphide and/or oxide of zinc and/or cadmium. The incident infra-red rays may be keyed by a square wave-form applied to the electrodes of a germanium crystal through which the rays are passed on to the film 3.
