Abstract

<PICT:1011542/C4-C5/1> In a display device of the type in which an electroluminescent layer 11 is excited by two or more voltage waves generated in a piezo-electric sheet 10 by electrodes 19 . . . 22 to produce a bright spot where all the voltage waves intersect, secondary light crosses or spots caused by other parts of the voltage waves or crossings thereof are reduced or eliminated by incorporating a non-linear resistance layer 12 which presents a low resistance only at the desired intersection point. Earthed layers 20a and 13 are provided below the electrodes 19 . . . 22 and top transparent electrode 14 respectively; the electrode 14 may be connected alternatively to earth or to a modulating source. Wave absorbers 15 . . . 18 of lead provided at the edges of the sheet 10 to prevent wave reflections. The piezo-electric sheet may be a PTZ ceramic and the non-resistive layer may be non-photoconductive cadmium sulphide. Specifications 900,995, 905,682, 971,459 and 985,222 are referred to.
