Abstract
814,185. Transistor generating and two stable state circuits. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. June 12, 1957 [June 12, 1956], No. 18085/56. Class 40 (6). In a circuit employing a junction transistor 1, Fig. 1, the base is so biased relative to the emitter that the transistor operates in the avalanche mode with a base current equal to or greater than that which occurs at the " critical point " in the collector current-voltage curve, Fig. 2. It is stated that as the reverse base current is increased, the characteristic curves 10 ... 19 are traced out to provide a curve 20 as the locus of the discontinuities in the curves, the point 21 where the curve 20 reverses its direction being the " critical point." The base of transistor 1 is reversely biased by supply 3 on resistor R2 and is triggered to a highly conducting state by a positive pulse applied over the capacitor Cl and reset by a negative pulse. A capacitor may be connected between collector and base, Fig. 4 (not shown), so that the negative impedance causes the circuit to generate sawtooth waves.
