A spreading device for cards or like filing material comprises a flexible, resilient sheet 1 disposed in a substantially vertical plane and having a number of parallel horizontal slots 2, each slot being adapted to receive a card 6, the sheet 1 being bendable by means of a backing sheet 3 connected to the lower part of the sheet 1, bending of the sheet 1 causing separation of the cards 6 from each other at their upper parts. The top end of the backing sheet 3 is reduced in width and is threaded through the two uppermost slots 2 in the sheet 1 so that the latter sheet can be bent by sliding of its top end up and down on the sheet 3.
