Description

H. JQ LINDSAY Jan. 3, 1928.
SIGNAL TAB Original Filed Sept. 10. 1926 murm HOW-I2! Ll nd5a7 Patented Jan. 3.192s.
I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HOMER J. LINDSAY, OF ROCHESTER, NEVJ YORK, ASSIGNOR TO'CLARK-LINDSA'Y COR- PORATION, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
SIGNAL TAB."
Original application filed September 10, 1926; SeriaiNo. 134,623.
. January 29, 1927.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved and adjustable signal tab for letter files, index cards etc. with which certain indications relating to the contents may be made on the file or index card.
This and other objects of this invention will be fully illustrated in the drawing, described in the specification and pointed out in the claims at the end thereof.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a file or folder equipped with one of the signal tabs.
Figure 2 is an enlarged front elevation of the signal tab and the portion of the file or index card on which it is mounted.
Figure 3 is an end elevation of the signal tab and the portion of the card or file on which it is mounted.
Figure 4: is a front elevation of a slightly modified form of the signal tab and the portion of the file or card on which it is mounted.
In the several figures of the drawing, like reference numerals indicatelike parts.
This application is a division of my earlier application Serial No.134,623, filed Sept. 10, 1926, and illustrates a modification of the signal tab shown and described therein.
In the form of signal tab illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawing the signal tab comprises the indicating finger 1 and "the operating finger 2. Both fingers are out from a single piece of sheet material with a pivot hole 3 provided between them.
1 A hollow pivots is adapted to pass thru the hole 3 and pivotally mount the fingers l and 2 to one side of the file or card.
A slot 5 is provided in the card concentric to the pivot hole and rivet and the indicating finger 1 passes thru this slot to project out on the opposite'side of'the file or card. The ends of the slot 5 serve as stops for the indicating finger and stop the movement of the finger-.1 in either a vertical or horizontal position. The indicating finger is prefer ably moved by means of the operating finger but it is possible to move the indicating finger from one position to the other without the use of the operating finger.
Divided and this application filed Serial No. 164,605.
The indicating finger is held in either position by reason of its frictional contact with the side of the file or card on which it is mounted. This frictional contact is increased in this form of mounting the indicating finger because the finger projects section 6 on which certain data may be written. The indicating finger 1 may be moved by rocking this enlarged data section forming an integral part thereof.
I claim:
1. Asignal tab comprising an indicating finger, pivotal means for said indicating finger, a folder having a curved guide slot for said indicating finger, said pivotal means being mounted on said folder with said curved slot concentric thereto.
2. A signal tab comprising an indicating finger, pivotal means for said indicating finger a folder having a curved guide slot for said indicating finger, said pivotal means being mounted onsaid folder with said curved slot concentric thereto, said indicating finger engaging said concentrically curved slot, holding said finger in predetermined positions on said folder.
3. A signal tab comprising an indicating finger, pivotal means for said indicating finger, a folder having'a curved guide slot for said indicating finger, said pivotal means being mounted on said folder with said.
curved slot concentric thereto, and a data plate provided on said indicating finger.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
HOMER J. LINDSAY.
