Abstract

Cellulosic textile materials are dyed with a dyestuff containing at least one solubilizing group and at least one reactive amino group, the material being treated, during or after dyeing, with a compound containing two epoxy groups or with 2 : 3-dibromo-butane-diol-(1 : 4), and the treated material being finally heated. Specified dyestuffs are of the anthraquinone, triphenylmethane, oxazine, nitro, perinone, phthalocyanine and azo (including metallized azo) series, specified solubilizing groups beng carboxylic acid, sulphonic acid and sulphonamide groups and the reactive amino group being a primary or secondary amino group or an amino group attached to an acid residue, especially a sulphonic acid residue. Specified epoxy compounds are butadiene dioxide, the diglycidyl ethers of ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, trimethylene glycol, 1 : 4-butane diol, 1 : 3-butane diol, 2 : 3-butane diol, 1 : 5-pentane diol, 2 : 4-pentane diol, 1 : 6-hexane diol, 2 : 5-hexane diol, 2-methyl-2 : 4-pentane diol, 1 : 4-dihydroxybenzene, 4 : 41-dihydroxy-diphenyl ether and 4 : 41-dihydroxy-diphenyl-dimethyl propane, and the diglycidyl ester of phthalic acid. Waterinsoluble epoxy compounds are used in the emulsified condition. The dyebath or aftertreating liquor may also contain an alkali metal hydroxide, ammonia, a water-soluble aliphatic amine or sodium carbonate or acetate. The heating step is preferably effected at above 100 DEG C. A chemical combination between the fibre, the dyestuff and the epoxy compound is said to take place. Numerous examples are given.
