Abstract

868,686. Boxes &c. WOOD & SON Ltd., W. May 29, 1959 [May 29, 1958], No. 17210/58. Class 18. [Also in Group VII] A suitcase having adjacent sides 10 and 13 joined together at an angle along the case edge 16 has a U-shaped plastics cover strip 17 of which side portions 18, 19 enclose and are bonded to opposite surfaces on the edge of the side 10 ; the side 13 has a plastics covering 23 bonded to it and has an integral inwardly projecting flange 24, and is joined to the side 10 by a weld extending along the common edge between the cover strip 17 and the plastics surface of the flange 24. The welding is effected by pressing the assembled parts 18, 10, 19 and 24 together and passing them through a welding head and platen. A suitcase body may consist of a part 10 turned up at either end to form a bottom and ends, to which are joined two sides 13 by the above method ; a lid may be similarly manufactured.
