Abstract

867,642. Pipe connections. SUGG & CO. Ltd., WILLIAM. May 21, 1957 [May 22, 1956], No. 15838/56. Class 99(1). A pipe fitting for use with a bayonet-type connector comprises a body portion 1 with a spigot end 2 for engagement with a socket connector 3, a tap 5 for controlling fluid flow, a niting 7 mounted on the lower end of the tap for rotation therewith, and safety locking means 8 mounted adjacent the niting. The niting limits the rotational movement of the tap ; it also prevents removal of the connector from the body 1, when the tap is in its " on " position, by obstructing forward movement of the connector. The locking means 8 extends into the path of the niting to prevent rotation of the tap in the absence of the connector. As shown, means 8 consists of a spring arm 8 which is depressed clear of the niting 7 by the connector 3 when the latter is pressed into position. In a modification, spring arm 8 is replaced by a spring-loaded latch plate.
