Abstract

867,610. Valves. CRANE PACKING Ltd. Dec. 4, 1958 [Dec. 9, 1957], No. 38178/57. Class 135. The body of a cylindrical plug valve is split at 14, Fig. 4, so that the clamping means 9 serve to tighten the body on to the liner which surrounds the plug. The body may be made of several parts, Fig. 3, clamped together by screws 9 to tighten on to the liner 6 which surrounds the plug 7 and is received in body recesses 5 the walls of which are knurled or otherwise roughened at 5a so that the liner is held against rotation. The liner 6 is made of a low-friction material, e.g. a synthetic plastic such as nylon or polytetrafluorethylene. The screws 9 may be spring loaded so that any expansion or contraction of the body parts caused by temperature changes is automatically compensated for. A spring clip 17, Fig. 4, biases the bottom of the liner 6 against an internal body shoulder.
