867,295. Mineral-mining apparatus. STAMICARBON N. V. Feb. 22, 1960, No. 6219/60. Class 68(1). A mineral-mining apparatus in which one or more winning machines, e.g. ploughs, are hauled to and fro along and against one side of a scraper conveyer is so designed that when dust created by and directed into the lower channel of the troughing of the conveyer by the machines accumulates to cause impedance above a certain value to the passage of the lower run of the endless scraper chain through said channel the hauling of the machine(s) is automatically interrupted to allow the lower run of the chain to clear said channel. In order that this may occur the sprocket-carrying drum 10 at one end of the conveyer is carried by a shaft 11 rotatable in bearings 12 slidably mounted in longitudinally extending guides in the side of the troughing. The bearings are secured to the piston rods 14 of chain-tensioning jacks 13, 14. As the dust accumulates in the lower channel of the troughing the drum 10 is urged inwards from the adjacent end of the conveyer to cause an increase in the pressure in the hydraulic system of the jacks in proportion to the increase in tension in the lower run of the scraper chain due to the dust. On a predetermined pressure in the hydraulic system of the jacks being reached a pressure relay operates a switch 21 to stop the drive of the haulage of the winning machine(s).
