Abstract

866,956. Brush gear for dynamo-electric machines. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 5, 1960 [Jan. 28, 1959], No. 3103/59. Class 35. In an arrangement for disengaging the contact brushes in an electrical machine from a moving contact surface, without interrupting the movement of the surface, brushes CB1, CB2 are carried in brush box BB secured to carrier member CM having an insulated handle (not shown). Carrier member CM is secured to a bracket mounted on a rocker ring (Fig. 1, not shown). The brushes are provided with projections TO (Fig. 5) which fit into recess RE in the partition W2 between the brushes and prevent them falling out of the holder when they are worn out. Walls W1, W3 of the brush box have slots, and the brushes have holes AP through which an arm of a key member KM, having an insulated handle, can be inserted to hold the brushes away from the moving contact surface while the carrier member and brush box are being removed for replacement of the brushes. On removing the key member the brushes are forced against the contact surface by a biasing assembly including arms BL1, BL2. Specification 839,140 is referred to.
