Abstract

850,797. Brushes for dynamo-electric machines. STACKPOLE CARBON CO. Dec. 17, 1956 [April 9, 1956], No. 38487/56. Class 35. A carbon brush 2 has parallel openings 3 filled with an adjuvant 4 (such as lithium carbonate, molybdenum disulphide, or a metal halide salt) to improve wearing properties, the openings being spaced and inclined so that as the brush wears, the area of adjuvant in contact with the slip ring 1 or commutator moves across the width thereof to provide uniform wear. The openings may be holes or slots and the latter may extend part way or right through the brush thickness. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 768,928.
