Abstract

A brush holder is molded in one-piece of electrical insulating material and has an opening 11 which receives the rotating part of the machine to be contacted by current carrying brushes. The holder includes at least two oppositely disposed brush holding housings 13 each having an end wall 14 remote from the opening 11 and being open on two opposite sides thereof. Each housing also has two spaced apart side walls 17, 18. Ribs 19 extend inwardly from the side walls. These ribs extend into recesses 22 in the side walls of current carrying brushes 20 with the brushes engaging the side walls of the housings. Springs 25 are located in the housings biasing the brushes towards the opening in the holder. Associated with each housing is a finger 26 located adjacent one of the open sides of the housing. The finger and the ribs of each housing contact the spring in the housing and serve to prevent it from falling through the open sides of the housing. <IMAGE>
