Abstract

An electrical machine has a commutator (5) and a commutator brush assembly which comprises a brush support (3) secured in an aperture (41) in a housing (4) of the machine. In order to be able to install the brushes (8, 9) in a simple and reliable manner, hammer brush holders (6, 7) are mounted on the support (3) for rocking towards and away from the commutator (5), and engage the support (4) in a space defined between the machine housing (4) and the commutator (5). The invention is particularly applicable to totally enclosed electric motors. <IMAGE>
