865,085. Plate heat exchangers. AIR PREHEATER CORPORATION. June 26, 1959 [July 10, 1958], No. 22044/59. Class 64(3) A heat exchanger comprises a series of pairs of plates 10 closed along their edges by members 14 to form fluid passageways 20 for fluid at high pressure and extended surfaces 12 protruding from the outside of the passageways to bridge the space between adjacent passageways. In the embodiment shown the extended surfaces of adjacent passageways abut one another but allow relative movement between one another. In a further embodiment the extended surfaces comprise a rectangularly corrugated sheet secured to one side of a passageway and abutting the flat face of the adjacent passageways. Tubular members, channel members or undulated sheets may replace the corrogated sheet.
