Abstract
864,635. Valves; liquid-pressure engines. EDWARDS BROS. (TIPPERS) Ltd., and WEBSTER, R. G. Feb. 3, 1959 [Feb. 21, 1958], No. 5727/58. Classes 69 (2) and 135. [Also in Group XXVIII] In a rotary cylindrical valve each delivery port of the valve member 16, Fig. 1, is connected to a pair of " dummy " balancing ports. As described, the valve member 16 is located in a housing 15 and controls the liquid supply to and exhaust from the plungers 12 of a swash plate motor or pump 10 the shaft 11 of which is connected to the member 16 by a dog clutch 17. The housing 15 has supply and/or discharge passages 18, 19 and radially directed transfer passages 21 each leading to a plunger 12. The valve member 16, Fig. 2, has segment-shaped opposed inlet and outlet ports 27, 28 and segment-shaped opposed working ports 35, 38 and two pairs of longitudinal transfer passages 25, 26. Each working port 35, 38 is balanced by a pair of " dummy " ports 36, 37 and 39, 40 respectively, to which it is connected by diverging passages. The inlet passage 18 is connected at any instant via port 28, passages 25 and port 35 to several of the passages 21 leading to plungers 12. At the same instant several passages 21 are connected via port 38, passages 26 and port 27 to the exhaust passage 19. The motor is reversed by connecting passage 19 to supply and passage 18 to exhaust. To provide endwise balancing of the member 16 the spaces 43, 44 at the ends of the member 16 are connected by the passage 42 to the motor body housing 14 and thence to the drain outlet 45, Fig. 1. The dog clutch 17 allows the member 16 to float in its housing.
