864,408. Automatic voltage control systems. WAGNER ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Aug. 19, 1958 [Aug. 26, 1957; Sept. 30, 1957], No. 26613/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 38 (4). In an A.C. voltage regulator of the kind disclosed in Specification 786,218 in which the output of a saturable reactor bridge is connected in series with the supply, a further saturable reactor is connected in shunt across the output diagonal of the bridge, so that when the bridge is balanced and hence contributing no output, it can be effectively short-circuited, thus reducing waveform distortion and phase shift. As the bridge output increases, the impedance of the shunt reactor is increased so as to have a negligible effect when the bridge output is a maximum. The shunt reactor and. the bridge balancing reactors may either be controlledmanually; or the bridge may be controlled automatically as in Specification 820,370, in which case the shunt reactor is controlled by the output of a pair of magnetic amplifiers which are differentially controlled by the two magnetic amplifiers which control the bridge balance.
