Abstract

902,958. Automatic current and voltage control systems. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO. Ltd. Oct. 16, 1958 [Oct. 16, 1957], No. 12237/62. Divided out of 902,957. Class 38 (4). A telephone cable is supplied from both ends by rectifier sets which are arranged to normally supply a constant current provided the output voltage does not rise above a set value. The two characteristics therefore intersect, Fig. 9 (not shown), so that the two sets divide the total voltage between them. Each set is basically as shown in Specification 902,957, but the magnetic current discriminator D, which controls the output current, is connected in series with the D.C. terminals of a bridge rectifier AM5, the A.C. energization of which is controlled by a transductor 21 in accordance with the output voltage of the main rectifier. The output of the transductor thus rises with output voltage and is arranged to be larger than the cable current through rectifier AM5 when the voltage reaches its limiting value. Thereafter the discriminator D becomes energized via diode AM6 in accordance with the output voltage and the output is reduced to hold the voltage at this upper limit. The transductor 21 may be replaced by an impedance energized over an isolating transformer from the A.C. input to the main rectifier.
