Abstract

863,944. Boots &c. B.T.R. INDUSTRIES Ltd., and JONES, F. L. May 4, 1959 [May 6, 1958], No. 14489/58. Class 17(2). A boot or shoe has within the thickness of the sole a flexible metal plate 12 extending over substantially the whole area of the sole and has a metal toe guard or stiffener 7 within the thickness of the toe. The boot or shoe has an outer rubber sole bonded to a rubber layer 11 between which and an inner rubber layer 10 the plate 12, which may be of brass plated tempered spring steel, is bonded. The heel end 12b of the plate 12 slightly overlaps the heel. The front end 12a of the metal plate 12 overlaps a flange 8 formed on the stiffener 7. A piece of hard fibre sheet 15 is embedded in the outer sole immediately beneath the flange 8. The boot or shoe is lined with a fabric 4, 5, and a layer of sponge rubber 9 is inserted between the lining 5 and the inside of the stiffener 7.
