Abstract

Compositions for softening callous skin comprise an aqueous solution of a caustic alkali and at least one mono-, di-, or trialkanolamine in which each alkyl group contains from 2 to 4 carbon atoms. A quaternary ammonium composition having a disinfecting action e.g. cetyldimethyl - benzyl - ammonium chloride may also be present and menthol may be added. Specified alkanolamines are monoethanolamine, monopropanolamine, monobutanolamine, diethanolamine and triethanolamine. Sodium hydroxide is the preferred caustic alkali.
