A rope 16 of natural or synthetic material, such as nylon, acrylonitrile or polyester fibres or filaments comprises strands 15 built up from cords 14 of twisted yarns, the cords 14 being balanced. It is stated that a balanced cord structure is attained by controlling the directions and degrees of twist.
