Abstract

862,718. Spray carburetters. CONTINENTAL MOTORS CORPORATION. April 15, 1959, No. 12763/59. Class 7(3). Fuel is supplied by a pump 12 through a metering valve 13 to a distributer 18, Fig. 2, having an inlet 27 leading to the distributer chamber 26a from which outlets 28 lead to individual nozzles 20 in the intake manifold branches, a valve 32 being operable to disconnect both the inlet 27 and the outlets 28 from the chamber 26a to prevent drainage from the fuel lines. The metering valve 13 is operated from the throttle valve 15 and in Fig. 2 the valve 32 is a sliding piston operated by the fuel pressure. The fuel entering at 27 passes through a .filter screen 34 into a recess 33 to lift the valve off its seat and flow through ports 35 into chamber 26a and to the outlets 28. When the fuel supply is cut off the valve 32 returns to its seat, the ports 35 being closed by the wall of bore 26b substantially simultaneously with the outlets 28 being closed by the upper part 32a of the valve. In a modification, Fig. 4, the valve 45 is operated either manually by a cam lever 50 pivotally connected to the valve stem 46 or by a solenoid.
