Abstract
862,650. Pipe joints. KOPPERS G.m.b.H., H. April 17, 1957 [April 23, 1956], No. 12571/57. Class 99(1). Two pipe elements 13, 16 are coupled together by a rigid, straight tube 17 having bevelled or part-spherical end surfaces abutting corresponding surfaces 19 on the parts 13, 16, the means 18 for clamping the tube 17 between the parts 13, 16, being such that charges in alignment may occur between the parts 13, 16À As applied to the heating gas supply system of a coke oven battery 1, the branch conduits 11 are provided with at least one expansion and universal joint 9, 9a, each of which comprises telescoping portions 8, 13, Fig. 2, sealed by a stuffing box joint 15, and a universal joint portion comprising the sleeve 17 clamped at each end against bevelled or spherical seats 19. The heating gas is supplied from a main 5 to the branches 11 which lead to the coke oven heating ducts 3. The sleeve 17 is clamped against the seats 19 by bolts 18 which pass through enlarged bores 27 and engage in spherical seats 32 to permit lateral movement of the bolts and universal movement of the sleeve 17 which is surrounded by a resilient sealing sleeve 20.
