Abstract

1500995 Pipe joints N KOJIMA 14 April 1975 15299/75 Heading F2G A pipe joint 1, Fig. 1A, for interconnecting pipes 21, 11 which in use may be subject to relative axial movement and/or axial misalignment, the pipes being of different diameters, comprises a shoulder 10 at one end having a connecting portion 4 with screw-threads 5 for engagement with one end 12 of the pipe 11 and a flange 2 at the other end of the joint 1 forming a seating for a ring-shaped packing 7 with an annular lip 9 which engages the pipe 21 to seal therewith, the packing 7 being held in place and pressed into engagement with the pipe 21 by a separate flange 19 secured to the flange 2 by adjustable bolts 25. The clearance 24 between the pipes allows for axial misalignment and relative axial telescoping movement of the pipes 21, 11. The pipe 11 is connected at its other end by means of screw-threaded joints to a pipe 22 by way of a reducer 14. If desired, a pipe joint 1 may be employed at both ends of the pipe 11. The pipes 21, 11 are shown in Fig. 1A as concentric, but their axes may be offset if desired. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 7) particularly for use with plastics pipes the packing 77 is bonded at one end of the joint 71 and bonded joints are also used to connect to pipes 81 and 83 by way of an increaser 94. The joints of the invention are also disclosed as being of use with T-pieces and cross-pieces.
