Abstract
862,506. Valves. MINISTER OF AVIATION, and ADAMS Ltd., L. Nov. 13, 1958 [Sept. 20, 1957], No. 29703/57. Class 135. A valve for an aircraft pressure breathing system has a gas inlet 2 and two outlets, one 3 permanently communicating with the inlet and the user's face mask, and the second 4, for inflating the user's clothing, being controlled by a valve 7 snapped open by a predetermined value of the fluid pressure on the inlet side and automatically closed by magnetic force, assisted if necessary by a light spring 24, when pressure in the clothing falls below that of the gas passing to the mask. Valve 7 is held closed by an armature 21, adjustable on the valve stem, being attracted by a permanent magnet 19. Above a certain altitude a predetermined high inlet pressure, after passing a barometric regulator and a pulsating flow-sensitive visual indicator, acts beneath a diaphragm 15 attached to the valve stem and overcomes ambient pressure acting above the diaphragm via a casing part and the magnetic attraction so that the valve snaps open. On fall of pressure in the inflatable clothing a differential pressure within the valve casing causes the valve to reseat. The valve 7 is provided with bleed holes 8.
