Abstract

A sanitary napkin which is curved to fit the user's body and tapered inwardly from its ends towards its middle, as in the parent Specification, incorporates a layer of thermosetting material of sufficient stiffness to hold the napkin in its arcuate shape. The layer of thermosetting material may be a sheet of phenol-formaldehyde, urea-formaldehyde or resorcinol-formaldehyde resin. In the preferred manner of making a napkin an absorbent pad is laid on a sheet of such material, which is of slightly greater width than the pad, so that when both are enclosed in a wrapper the edges of the thermosetting sheet are folded up around the edges of the pad. The napkin is then formed to the desired arcuate form and its temperature is raised to cause the resin to harden. In order also to avoid distortion in use, the pad is attached centrally to a continuous strip of fabric, the ends of which form the attachment tabs of the napkin.
