Abstract

862,007. Key locks. RAJAKARUNA, W. E. March 28, 1958 [April 3, 1957], No. 10888/57. Class 44. A lock comprises a block 1 having a plurality of parallel slots 2-5 each containing a slidable spring actuated locking plate 6-9 with a circular hole 14 therein matching a bolt receiving bore in the block normal to the slots, a bolt 26 having a recess for each locking plate and a key 30 for engaging the ends of the locking plates to displace them different extents to bring their circular holes into register with one another and with the bolt receiving bore, the key either having pegs 31 of different lengths, Fig. 1, which may enter bores 21-24 in the block, opening to the ends of the respective locking plates to effect their displacement by thrusting thereon or having lateral humps of different heights (not shown), which may enter a slot in the block normal to those containing the locking plates to bear on the ends of and so effect the displacement of the plates, the ends of the bolt 26 and walls of each of the recesses therein being tapered so that on the introduction of the bolt into the block, the locking plates will be displaced by such lateral portions to provide for self locking by the edges of the apertures in the locking plates engaging in the recesses in the bolt.
