Abstract

924,515. Locks. INGERSOLL LOCKS Ltd. Sept. 15, 1961 [Sept. 15, 1960], No. 31838/60. Class 44. In a plug-and-cylinder type lock mechanism comprising a series of spring-loaded pivotless levers which normally are maintained in a groove or grooves in the cylinder, the lever and groove or grooves are so shaped that in the event of one lever being lifted from a groove by other than the correct key and the plug turned slightly to prevent return movement of the lever, the remaining levers will so interengage with the side or sides of the groove or grooves as to prevent their withdrawal whilst the plug is in the turned position. As shown, ends 14 of spring-loaded plate-type tumblers 12 are engageable in recesses 13 of the lock cylinder and each lever is formed with inclined faces 15 which are spaced from inclined faces 16 of the recesses, the arrangement being such that if an attempt is made to operate the lock with other than a correct key, the end 14 of the first tumbler 12 is moved out of its recess 13 to the position shown in Fig. 5 and can thereafter be held in this position by slight rotation of the lock barrel as shown in Fig. 6. However, the rotation of the barrel also rotates the remaining tumblers to an extent which prevents them, by reason of the surfaces 15 and 16, from being moved from their recesses 13.
