Abstract
1,121,111. Reinforced-concrete piles. K. G. SJOSTROM. Nov. 2, 1965 [Nov. 5, 1964], No. 46402/65. Heading E1H. A coupling for connecting two sections 1, 2 of a reinforced-concrete pile to each other comprises metal ferrules 3 attached to said sections and endplates 4, 5 to which pairs of pins 7, pairs of sleeves 9 and rectangular transverse ducts 10 are fixed, the pair of pins 7 on one plate engaging with the sleeves 9 on the other plate. Holes are formed in each plate to give the pins on the other plate access to the associated sleeves, each pin being lodged within a further hole in the plate to which it is fixed. The pins are retained and locked in the sleeves by rectangular plates 12 that are situated in the ducts 10 and have notches or slots (13, 14), Fig. 5 (not shown), therein, which slots engage with grooves 18 in the pins when the plates are displaced longitudinally of the ducts, a hole (15) being provided at one end of the slot (14) to permit one of the pins to pass therethrough when the two sections are being brought together. Tapered portions (16, 17) on each plate act as wedges to render the pins in tension when the plate locks the pins within the sleeves. A pin (19), Fig. 3 (not shown), prevents each plate from being moved into its locking position before the sections are brought together, a lug or flange carrying the pin being bent at right angles to the plate to fix the latter in its locking position.
