Abstract

1536548 Connecting column sections together; releasable fastenings L WAHMAN 19 Nov 1975 [12 Dec 1974 13 June 1975] 47579/75 Headings E1W and E2B [Also in Division F2] Concrete column segments, which include reinforcing rods 2, are joined together by fitting a number of elements 6, each comprising a dovetail groove 16 and an aperture 11 to receive a rod 2, to adjacent ends of two segments to be connected, either by mounting them in a casing 3 or by embedding them directly (Fig. 8) in the concrete of the segments, and then inserting connecting members 18, each of double-dovetail form, into pairs of grooves 16 which lie opposite one another when the adjacent ends of the segments are brought into abutment, so that members 18 interlock with the elements 6 of the two segments to secure them together. Conical recesses 29 are preferably formed in the adjacent ends of the segments, or in the opposing faces of plates 5 (Fig. 4) of respective casings 3 to receive double-conical locating pegs for alignment of the segments, and the elements 6 are preferably detachably fitted to each casing 3 by fitting them in recesses in the casing such that flanges 10 on the plate 5 slidingly engage in grooves in the elements 6 securing of the reinforcing rods 2 to the elements 6 is effected by the provision of a screwthread 7 on each rod 2, the provision of a larger diameter screwthread 12 in the aperture 11 of each element 6, and by screwing sleeves 13 having corresponding internal and external screwthreads into the annular gaps between the rods 2 and the apertures 11. The connecting members 18 may each include a mounting flange 22 (Fig. 8) having either one or two perforated lobes for the connection of a frame 27 or a beam 28 to a column formed of the segments 1.
