Abstract

[Also in Divisions A6 and E1] Furniture connectors are made up from or comprise apertured open-topped boxlike devices, e.g. 60 (Fig. 24), which have slots between at least the upper halves of adjacent side walls 62, 63, and can be combined into a linear, or two- or threedimensional e.g. cruciform shape. When used in combination the devices may be bolted together (Fig. 12, not shown), or compressed fastenings 21-23 (Fig. 14, not shown) may be employed, with a central leaf spring 21 or length of spring steel wire, and terminal pins 23. These latter fastenings may also be employed for fixing the devices to tubes via holes therein, although if the tubes are to be connected end-to-end, the devices may just be overlapped at the tube joint and employed as a jig while the tubes are welded together (Fig. 6, not shown). Corner connections may comprise one device hooked over the end of one tube with the rest of the body of the device sitting in the other tube (Fig. 19, not shown, and Fig. 24), or a device set into the end of each tube (Figs. 20, 27 and 28, not shown), and mutually overlapped. The flanges 80 in the side walls 63 of the embodiment of Fig. 24 have V-shaped edges 82<SP>1</SP>, 83<SP>1</SP>, with a cam follower 85<SP>1</SP> running between the opposed pairs of flanges 80, and a bolt 88<SP>1</SP> passing through a cover plate 95 to lock the device 60<SP>1</SP> in position. The overlapping device is similarly locked in position in the end of the tube T6<SP>1</SP>.
