[Also in Groups I, VI and XI] In a coffee beverage making machine (see Group VI) having an air heater associated with a coffee roaster, air is supplied from a fan to a valve 15, Fig. 4, where it passes through apertures 66 in a regulating sleeve 65 into a ring space 67 communicating with an air canal 16, leading to an air heater, or into a second ring space 68, communicating with a by-pass canal 21, or with both spaces 67, 68 or with neither. Sleeve 65 is connected to an armature 69 controlled by an electromagnet winding 70. A sleeve 73 is connected to a pin 72 slidable in a fixed tube 71 biased by spring 74, its position being determined by a Bowden cable 75 connected at one end to the pin 72 and at the other end to control rollers 76, Fig. 5. The latter runs on a control surface, whose position is adjustable by knob 77 to control the axial position of the pin 72. A spring 80 tends to shift the armature 69 downwards relative to the sleeve 73 until a shoulder 78 of sleeve 73 engages a shoulder 79 of armature 69. When winding 70 is fully energized, armature 69 is pulled up fully and air is supplied to canal 16 only. When the voltage across the winding is reduced, armature 69 is forced downwards until shoulders 78 and 79 engage when air will be fed to both canals 16 and 21, the proportion depending on the setting of knobs 77. When winding 70 is de-energized armature 69 drops so that no air is supplied to either canal 16 or canal 21.
