859,293. Tuyeres; feeding granular materials. ARBED ACIERIES REUNIES DE BURBACH-EICH-DUDELANGE S.A. Dec. 17, 1958 [Jan. 13, 1958], No. 40670/58. Classes 51 (1) and 51 (2). In a lance for blowing powdered or granulated material into or on to molten metal, a tubular removable wear-resistant liner is separated from an outer tubular cooling jacket by a free space of annular cross-section. Coaxial tubes 1, 2, 3 of copper or steel form the cooling jacket, and a liner 8 of abrasion resistant rubber has an insert 9 which screws into a part 11. A lance head 13, with a Venturi nozzle part 16, screws on to the ends of the tubes 1 and 3. In the embodiment of Fig. 2, the liner tube 20 ends in a Venturi nozzle 21 which screws into a part 23 of the lance head. The Venturi nozzle part may be made removable and separate from the liner tube, and the nozzle may be spaced from the head of the lance so that the annular space between the liner and the cooling jacket forms a passage for the introduction of gas into the melt.
