Abstract

859,273. Applying travellers to spinning frame rings. BACKER A. G. Dec. 9, 1957 [Dec. 8, 1956], No. 38171/57. Class 120(3). In a device for applying stacked travellers to the rings of spinning frames, in which the foremost of a stock of travellers 21 spring pressed against stop 25 is separated by a tongue 7 and pressed thereby on to a ring 5, Figs. 6, 7, the spring pressure is exerted through a sleeve 15, Fig. 2, sliding on a tube 14 parallel to a guide rod 22 carrying the stacked travellers, and the stop 25 is fixed to tongue 7. Pressure is exerted on sleeve 15 by a spring 19 which bears on a block 18 displaceable within tube 14 and connected to sleeve 15 by a screw passing through a slot 16 in the tube. A lug 24, Fig. 1, on sleeve 15 presses against the rear of the stack of travellers on rod 22 which is connected to tube 14 by a strap 23. Tube 14 is carried by a plate 3 fixed between two handle parts 1, 2. Tongue 7 is slidable within the handle 1, 2 and is advanced against the tension of a spring 12 by raising an operating handle 9. Stop 25 is adjustable transversely of the direction of movement of tongue 7, to suit the width of traveller, by an adjusting screw 27, a spring-loaded ball engages notches in the surface of the screw to retain the screw in its adjusted position. The end 26 of rod 22 projects slightly beyond plate 3, so as to retain the end traveller, and is chamfered on the side facing tongue 7 which is pressed resiliently against plate 3 by a leaf spring so as to be able to ride over the rod end. In operation, a recess 4 in plate 3 is set against the edge of the ring 5, Fig. 6. Handle 9 is raised to advance tongue 7 horizontally as a pin 32 on tongue 7 slides in a slot 33 in plate 3. As pin 32 enters the inclined portion of slot 33, the front end of tongue 7 moves upwardly, so that a projection 31 causes the detached traveller 21 to make a quarter turn on to the ring, as in Fig. 7. An eccentric 35, Fig. 1, can be turned to adjust the position of rest of tongue 7 to suit the traveller thickness. In a modification the whole path of movement of the front of tongue 7 can be adjusted relative to the ring 5. To apply a new stock of travellers to rod 22, sleeve 15 is drawn back and turned so that the guide screw engages a notch 36, Fig. 2, in the end of slot 16; lug 24 is thereby moved clear of the free end of rod 22. A small knife at the end of rod 22 serves to cut the wrapping as a wrapped stack of travellers is pushed on to the rod. In another modification, Fig. 12, a two-part traveller guide is provided, the rear part 37 being detachably held between the front part 38 and a holder 39 and being exchangeable for a similar part serving as a magazine on which a stock of travellers has been arranged.
