858,591. Intake silencers. CESKE ZAVODY MOTOCYKLOVE, NAVODNI PODNIK. Feb. 21, 1958 [Feb. 21, 1957], No. 5796/58. Class 7(2). [Also in Group XXVIII] An air-intake, silencing and cleaning device comprises a casing 1 having an air inlet 9 and an air outlet 7 at the ends thereof and divided by a wall 4, provided with a central opening, into upstream and downstream portions, and a tubular filter 3 located within the upstream portion to form a chamber 5 between the filter and the casing. The chamber communicates with the air inlet 9, and a cavity 12 within the filter communicates with the downstream portion of the casing via the opening in the wall 4, the cavity together with the downstream portion forming the silencer. As shown, the cylindrical filter filled with filaments of polyvinyl-chloride is closed at the top thereof and is urged by a leaf spring 11 against a rubber ring 10, the tubular end of the filter being located in the aperture of the partition. The inlet 9 is tangential to the cover 2 which is secured by lever clamps. In a modification, there are two inlets disposed side-by-side and formed by a bent sheet-metal insert, and a rubber buffer is substituted for the leaf-spring 11.
