Abstract

768,597. Silencers for gaseous currents. BOSCH GES, R. April 1, 1955 [May 6, 1954], No. 9495/55. Class 7 (2). [Also in Group XXVIII] A silencer for a compressor comprises a member 17 having a helically undulating outer surface disposed within a jacket 16, the regions of maximum diameter of the member abutting the inner surface of the jacket to form a helical fluid-flow passage. As shown, the member 17 is tubular in form and is connected in the valve plate 7 of the compressor by the tubular section 19 of a flanged member 18, the member 16 being cylindrical and cup-shaped. Exhaust gas passes into the member 17, through the helical passage, and to a clearance between the member 16 and the chamber 15 enclosing the silencer. When used as an intake silencer there is an inner core 25 open at both ends and providing a further helical passage between the member 20 and the jacket 26, air drawn in during the induction stroke of the compressor passing between the member 20 and the jacket and then along the passage between that member and the core.
