Abstract
Organo aluminium compounds are prepared by pressurising a reaction vessel containing finely divided aluminium and an aluminium alkyl or alkyl aluminium hydride with hydrogen, and then reacting with a mixture containing hydrogen and olefin in the mole ratio of between 1 : 1,4 and 1 : 1,95. The initial pressurisation is preferably carried out at above 80 DEG C. but below 150 DEG C. and at a pressure of 3 to 100 atmospheres. The aluminium is preferably used in the form of flitters and the aluminium alkyl may be the "heel" from a previous reaction containing a mixture of aluminium dialkyl hydride and aluminium trialkyl. A trace of halogen such as iodine may also be present. Specifications 801,674, 811,076 and 857,680 are referred to.
