Abstract

857,638. Electrically - released switches. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. May 5, 1959, No. 15358/59. Class 38 (5). The armature of a latching relay with a contact spring set is released from its latch by a second energization and de-energization of the relay. When the armature 1 is attracted by the coil (not shown) its arm 2 operates a contactspring set (not shown). During this movement a pin 4 on a lever 3, attached to the armature, moves a latch 5 on a second lever 6 pivoted at 7 in a clockwise direction against the bias of a spring 8. At the end of its travel the pin 4 engages the remote face of a detent 9 also secured to the lever 6. On de-energization the return of the armature by the contact-spring set is limited by the engagement of the pin 4 in a notch in the top of the latch 5 and in this position the contacts remain operated. When the coil is again energized the pin 4 moves upward to engage the other side of the detent 9 and on de-energization it engages the near sloping side of the latch 5 to move the lever 6 anti-clockwise against the bias of a spring 10 during the movement of the armature and contacts to the non-operated position. The contact stack may include contact pairs which operate during movement between the energized and latched positions.
