857,526. Making pipe fittings; forging. HUET, A. July 17, 1958 [Dec. 12, 1957], No. 23011/58. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). A method of making a large diameter metal socket, e.g. for a header, comprises flaring the rims b<1> of the initial socket by a tapered punch c, disposing a die e, f around the socket and driving a punch g of cylindro-conical form from the inside to the outside of the socket to compress the metal in the die and produce a socket of larger diameter and with thicker rims. The socket is heated before each punching operation. The inside of the die part f corresponds to the dimensions of the final socket to be obtained and the two parts c, f could be in one piece.
