Abstract

857,360. Injection-moulding machines. PROJECTILE & ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Sept. 16, 1959 [Sept. 16, 1958], No. 29651/58. Class 87(2). A nozzle of an injection moulding machine comprises a main nozzle section and a retractable nipple slidably mounted therein which contains a longitudinal injection passage connected by a cross passage with the interior of the main nozzle section with the nipple retracted, but obturated on a forward movement of the nipple under internal pressure in the nozzle ; the nipple being capable of further forward movement to connect the cross passage with an alternative route for the flow of material to it and said passage to permit the expulsion of waste material. A nipple 27 is slidably arranged in the bore 25 of a nozzle section 21 and comprises a first cylindrical section 28 exactly fitting said bore, a cross passage 34 therein, a second cylindrical section 31 of smaller diameter, and an enlarged head 32 with flat sides 33. Head 29 screwed onto the nipple abuts the mould and an axial passage 35 in section 28 leads thereinto so that plasticised material fed from the left enters the mould via passages 34, 35. With the nipple abutting the mould, section 21 is withdrawn slightly and passage 34 obturated ; further retraction removes the nipple from the mould and allows waste material to pass sides 33 and reach passages 34, 35 via a hollowed out portion 26 of bore 25,
