Abstract

856,957. Reservoir pens. FABER-CASTELL, R. G. V., [trading as FABER-CASTELL A. W. [firm of]]. Jan. 1, 1959 [March 28, 1958], No. 38/59. Class 146(3). In a ball-point pen the ball 5 is mounted in a frustoconical chamber 6 in a ball socket 11 beaded at 9, and rests under a slight pressure upon a ball seat formed by a resilient insert 3 formed of polyethylene of high molecular weight. The insert 3 is secured in a recess in an extension 2 of the ink reservoir 1, and has a central bore and a number of channels 10 therein to allow ink to reach the ball 5. When the pen is used for writing, the ball 5 will be pressed upwardly, compressing the insert 3, and will yield laterally to allow an increased supply of ink to escape past the ball seat and the bead 9, and pen strokes of varying thickness will thus be produced.
