Abstract

799,237. Reservoir pens. CASTELL, R. G. VON FABER-, [trading as FABERCASTELL, A. W. [Firm of]]. June 20, 1956 [July 5, 1955; Aug. 3, 1955], No..19117/56. Class 146(3) A retractable ball-point pen has an ink cartridge 4 slidable into writing position against a spring 8 and securable in such position, an air-admission opening 6 in the cartridge being sealed by a member 19, secured to the pen barrel, when the cartridge is retracted. The member 19, which is formed by a hemispherical plug covered with resilient material, e.g., polyethylene has a body provided with lugs 17 engaging diametrically opposed slots 16 in a press button 15. The lugs 17 are clamped between a cap 13 and a ring 21 fitted in the rear barrel part 2. Depression of the but ton 15 advances the cartridge 4 into writing position where it is maintained by resilient lugs 10<SP>1</SP> on a sleeve 10 engaging a recess 11 in a screwed bush 3 which secures the rear part 2 to the front part 1 of the barrel. In a modification, the press button has four longitudinal slots each engaging a lug of a sealing member which closes the rear end of the cartridge when it is retracted. The press button has an annular ring carrying four radial pins which engage a cam groove in the rear barrel section for locking the cartridge in the projected position.
