Abstract
856,688. Valves. ENGSTROM, O. L. Feb. 17, 1958 [March 20, 1957], No. 5137/58. Class 135. A flushing valve comprises a housing having a water inlet 16 and a water outlet 15 which communicates with one end of a first conduit member 21 within the housing, a second conduit member 24 within the housing and surrounding the first conduit member, the water inlet being in communication with the annular space between the first and second conduit members, a valve seat defined by the end of the first conduit member remote from the outlet 15, a valve cap member 28 freely movable within the housing and adapted to seat against said seat to seal off the first conduit member 21, the valve cap having a peripheral sleeve portion 31 arranged in closely spaced relation with respect to the outer wall of the second conduit member 24, and a pilot valve 52 adapted temporarily to release the pressure from a chamber above the valve cap 28 to allow the cap to move away from its seat for flushing action through the valve. In the embodiment shown, the valve cap 28 seats on both the conduit members ; the pilot valve is actuated by a manual push-button 59; and an adjustable stop screw 67 determines the lift and closing time of the valve. A small opening 32 in the skirt 31 releases any air bubbles into the chamber above the cap.
