Abstract

1,149,405. Valves. A. MœLLER AND K. MœLLER, [trading as A. U. K. MœLLER], 23 June, 1966 [23 June, 1965], No. 28088/66. Heading F2V. Pilot operated valve comprises a housing 4, a valve member 1 having a through passage 10, a diaphragm 3 for displacing the valve member, an inlet 12 and an outlet 13, a pilot 11 operable to open or close the passage 10, and a coverplate 2 carrying a tapered pin 5 which projects through a leak opening 6 in the diaphragm, the diaphragm and the cover-plate being movable with the valve member to open or close the outlet 13 and the cover-plate being movable away from the diaphragm to increase the effective size of the opening 6 when the pilot opens the passage 10 and the valve member and diaphragm move away from the outlet 13 under the inlet fluid pressure, and the cover-plate having a fire channel 7 and being arranged during the closing movement of the valve member and diaphragm to come into contact with the diaphragm over the leak opening 6 and restrict the effective size of the opening by increase of penetration of the tapering pin in the opening but to permit of restricted communication between the chamber above the diaphragm and the opening 6 by way of the channel 7. The pilot may be electro-magnetically operated. The pin 5 is circular, square or oval and during opening and closing movement of the valve member moves radially in the leak opening to dislodge any dirt.
