Abstract

856,633. Cleaning metals. AJEM LABORATORIES -Inc. March 14, 1957 [March 14, 1956], No. 8443/57. Class 82(2) A metal strip cleaning apparatus comprises fluid distributing boxes adjustably positioned one on each side of the strip to project fluid thereon, the arrangement of the jets and the conditions of flow of the fluid being such that the strip floats between the boxes. Feeding rolls are arranged outside the treatment area of the machine. The strip W is fed between top and bottom boxes 7, 8, provided with jet apertures 36 in their adjacent faces. Rolls 44, 46 are driven in synchronism and the strip is held over them by the top rolls which are supported on a rocking member 61 adjustably spring-loaded by the nut 65. A pump 80 delivers the cleaning liquid through flexible pipes to allow the boxes to be hingedly attached at 41 thus facilitating changing of the aperture plates 34. The boxes have cleaning openings 33. Air jets from pipe 88, 89 dry the strip.
