1,011,020. Wet treating webs. BENTELER INTERTEX ORGANIZATION A. G. Aug. 13, 1962 [Aug. 12, 1961], No. 31028/62. Heading D1L. In apparatus for the wet treatment of a web 3 the web is led about upper and lower guide rollers 2 and 2<SP>1</SP> above the surface 1 of the liquor, nozzles 6 being so arranged that they spray liquor oppositely to the direction of movement of the web in a sheet extending across the web and impinging substantially tangentially on to the web as it passes over a guide roller. In the form shown two nozzles 6 formed by slits in a casing 5 are provided not more than 15 mms away from each of any or all rollers and are directed so that the liquor impinges on the web in a direction opposite to its motion. Liquor from the jet 9 flows back along the web until it meets the jet 8 where it creates a swirling motion. The liquor is supplied to the casing 5 through a supply conduit 7 about which the casing is rotatable to give access to the associated roller and nozzles. Rotating, non-circular members 10 vibrate the web between rollers. In Fig. 1 a roller 2 is shown frictionally driven by and cooperating with one of the upper rollers 2, the two rollers forming a nip for squeezing liquor from the web and the spent liquor running into a trough 18 over deflecting plates 18 to be purified and reused; in alternative forms all the upper rollers and/or all the lower rollers are provided with co-operating rollers similar to roller 2a. A slide member having splayed legs may be fitted in each nozzle 6 and be manually reciprocated therealong by means of a detachable rod to clean the nozzles.
