Abstract

In a method of coating a web 22 a liquid coating composition e.g. from a trough 28 is caused to flow down an inclined plane 25 to a sharp edge at the lower end thereof, said liquid being dammed back by an adjustable retainer blade 32 and released in a controlled manner. The web is passed over a counter-electrode e.g. roller 18 spaced from the sharp edge and the composition is atomised at the sharp edge and deposited on the web by means of a high potential difference (40-75 kv.) maintained between the edge and the counter-electrode.
